Day 5 - Okamino and Beyond

Jean Marc Vallee who directed the movie "Wild" was interviewed on CBC's Q this morning. He talked about the author's reasons for hiking the Pacific Crest Trail by herself.  I had read the book, but missed this point, which is that she didn't know why she was hiking, but that eventually, she came to accept herself as the flawed individual that she is, and all are.

Today's hike up Knox and down to Paul's Tomb and back was serene from last night's light snowfall. We are out of the deep freeze for now.

After hundreds of kilometres on my old day hikers it is time to retire them for gardening. These are the first baby blue pair that I've ever owned. The sales person at True Outdoors swears by Scarpa and so does my daughter.

Powdery snow has soft edges and makes the landscape surreal.

This is Gary. He lost the lens to his glasses a couple of days ago and hopes to retrieve it. Gary is a multi-talented individual who plays the drums with passion in his garage. He was an athlete, doing triathlons and other heart straining sports.  Thanks for the interesting conversation. Hope you found your lens.

We are lucky to have 4 seasons in Canada. The views change so dramatically.

Recent internal dialogue:

Must get ready for Christmas. Must get ready for Christmas. Must get ready for Christmas. Must get ready for Christmas.Must get ready for Christmas. Must get ready for Christmas. Must get ready for Christmas. Must get ready for Christmas.Must get ready for Christmas. Must get ready for Christmas. Must get ready for Christmas. Must get ready for Christmas.
